The CTI Centre for Economics Report

Chris Mitchell
CTI Centre for Economics

The CTI Centre for Economics is based at the University of Bristol, within the Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) which is host to more than thirty-four funded projects at the forefront of learning and research technology. Such projects include SOSIG (Social Science Information Gateway), Biz/ed (Business Education on the Internet) and REGARD (an online service providing research information).

New Look

The Centre re-launched its Web site on the 15th February. It is now more intuitive to navigate and more pleasing to the eye. The software catalogue has been significantly updated, a section added on online teaching material and Technology Infosheets, Frequently Asked Questions and Case Studies brought together under the heading ‘Advice’. Please take a look and tell us what you think.

The Centre’s Newsletter has also been redesigned. Now spanning four sides it provides announcements of forthcoming events, latest news and releases and passes on a few of our own recommendations. To accompany this the Centre now sends out an email version so that all the latest announcements will land on your desktop every month. Subscription details can be found on our Web site.

Online Survey

There is still time to participate in the Centre’s ongoing survey of attitudes and usage of learning technology in Economics. The questionnaire should only take a few minutes to complete and the results will be made public. It can be found at: http://www.ilrt.bris.ac.uk/ctiecon/contact/qn2.htm [No longer available but we periodically introduce user questionnaires in the contact section- Web Editor]

CALECO 98 Proceedings

The CALECO 98 Conference Proceedings have been published and are now available from the Centre for £12.50 (including postage and packing). For further information on the content of last year’s conference see the last edition of CHEER.

Lunchbytes

If you would like us to come to your University and offer guidance on the use of learning technology in Economics then please contact us at the address below. We run workshops, demonstrations and lunchbyte sessions on a number of topics ranging from customising WinEcon to searching on the Internet. Let us know what you are looking for and we can tailor our talk accordingly.

Penultimate Report

The time when the curtains come down on the CTI is nearing. Following the CTI/TLTSN Review and resulting consultation exercise the call for bids for new subject centres supporting teaching innovation will by now have been made. These subject centres are likely to have a broader remit than the existing CTI centres. For more information see the online news service of the CTI at: http://www.cti.ac.uk/news/
